For whom art and culture institutions in Gdańsk are?

Project Прогулянки. Прогулки. Walks. Walks. is a response to the need to create public institutions in places more open to new residents of Gdańsk.

In a multicultural project group, we considered how we use the cultural offer and how institutions should open up to new audiences. We divided the project into four parts: joint training in multicultural competencies among the invited institutions, going out to cultural places with guided tours in several languages, and joint creation of a map of cultural places with recommendations and evaluation.

During the cycle of walks, together with the participants, we got to know the offer of cultural institutions next to us. After each meeting, we had time for tea, coffee and a conversation with participants to find out how new residents use the free time offer. It turned out that we don't even know about many places! Our training in multicultural competencies helped us to find out the answer to how new residents feel and to pay attention to the opportunities and barriers created by cultural institutions. The lack of information about the offer in a language other than Polish is one of them ...

We decided to use the records of joint conversations to create a joint map of places from residents for residents. We hereby provide a map, or rather a collection of places and recommendations that we hope will be used to discover Gdańsk from a different angle.

This is just the beginning of the road to opening places of culture for new residents, because real accessibility is hidden in building a message or employing people with experience of migration in their institutions. We will tell about these aspects with examples from other projects and in our next activities.
